No surprises right about the verdict?
But why are we bothered. Every single time the authorities have intimidated us with power and threats of violence, we have got badly needed publicity and public support has moved more in our favour.
Bring it on!
Given an eviction which will likely mean police violence on the peaceful protest, things are looking up in terms of the cause. But I do not condone police violence of course. See Occupy Wall Street.
But we have chosen to appeal. This is a mistake. It will drag the process out, the public will get annoyed with us and we'll lose all the hard won support for the cause. Dragging it out is self indulgent.
We are grateful for our pro bono legal counsel. But is it wise to bang on about it all being in the cause of human rights law, while public support remorselessly drifts away, soon to be lost altogether prior to a violent eviction?
Would the wise not prefer to leave heads held high before then with enough public support remaining to return another day? Or would they rather public support was maintained through violence.
My proposal is for the camp to form an exit strategy working group, thank the public, leave the place in tip top shape, consider what worked and come back stronger another day. Another has proposed we march out peacefully with mouths gaffer taped up.
Both displays of respectful publicity. To show we are more grown up than those in the great houses out east and west.
But I'm not sure anyone on camp nor Fleet Street has the wisdom to make this happen.
I'll be on camp tomorrow to solicit support for a pre eviction exit strategy. Find me at the General Assmembly.
